IF you're game has multiplayer, and almost all of them do, the servers should be shut down from 12am 11/11 until 12am 11/12. End of story. A solid 24 hours of no shooter games being played online.
This is the one day a year Canadians and Americans remember our fallen soldiers, people who fought for our countries in numerous wars, the one day we should be most aware of peace; the fact that we are able to, in simulated battle, kill each other with guns completely is hypocritical. Now many may say, "soldiers fought and died so we could have the freedom to do ridiculous things like this though man," and to that I have to say this. Yes exactly, they fought and died for us, so for us to take war so lightly that we're able to casually play it on a day when we should be honouring real people's lives and sacrifices is just NOT something we should do. I am not by any means a big supporter of war, but as a history major, I understand its importance to our world and our society and in no way do I take the actions of the individuals who did things for us in the future lightly.
It's not a hard thing to ask either, it's pausing the servers of multiplayer for 24 hours of remembrance, so we as humans are unable to kill other humans online for 24 hours. If game companies are worried it will hurt their net profits, it more than likely would not, if anything it would make it look like they are tremendous trailblazers and forward thinkers. Which is actually why I give EPIC Games a ton of credit. I may hate Fortnite but for them to go out of their way to create Remembrance Island, a place where no one is allowed to kill anyone, a place where guns are prohibited, a place covered in gravestones and poppies, just so we can pay tribute, is amazing. It makes me proud to say there is a company who, despite their massive bottom line, takes pride in sacrifices that our soldiers have made. If other companies followed suit, I'm not saying go all out like this and make Remembrance Island or other ceremonies, but to just for ONE DAY, shut down their multiplayer servers would mean a lot to many people. I'm sure it would mean a lot to our current soldiers and their families as well, not just those who fought and died in the past, but those continuing to fight and die in war today.
Remember, it's just a video game, I think we can take one day break guys. At least, if no one else is, I plan to today, not play any shooter games whether they be first or third person shooter games.
