But I'm fine with it in this situation.
Wow, that was a short article Kyle, well I'm not exactly done yet because there are a few things I need to explain, especially when it comes to me supporting something that is technically not legal.
What are NFC cards ?? NFC cards are the little chips in the base of amiibos that allows you to use them in games. Nintendo themselves creates Amiibo cards for Animal Crossing and Mario Superstars. Yes, those little plastic figures that cost anywhere from $15.99-$29.99 CDN all they have is a little chip in the bottom of them to make them work and that is all. Besides that all they are is memorabilia for whatever game they represent. Normally amiibos aren't really a thing to worry about I'm sure not many people used them in Super Smash Bros. properly anyways but now we have a game that does use them properly. Enter Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch (and Wii U but meh).
Amiibo figurines unlock a vast number of perks in the game; all sorts of goodies that any Zelda fan would want in their game.
With Amiibo figurines comes one issue though, whether it was the day they came out or 2 years down the road now Nintendo has always had a supply and demand issue. It causes headaches for everyone involved. They didn't meet demand for these figures upon release and now they have a game that uses them to their maximum potential 2 years down the road. Well okay Nintendo is clearly just going to produce more then to make money and get them back on the market.
That's not how Nintendo works, I swear they must hate making money, from Amiibos to the NES Classic anything that prints them money has the discontinue button hit on it so quickly it hurts at points. With no plans to make them in the future. That's why I don't mind that people are doing this. I would rather see someone pay the $1 to $3 someone is asking for an NFC card on eBay to get something in Breath of the Wild than have them pay the exorbitant amount certain "collectors" people resell amiibos for at like $70 or more.
Well what's so worth it to go through the trouble of making bootleg NFC cards, like what in Breath of the Wild is cool enough to make or buy them. Well a great example is the original Super Smash Bros. Link amiibo is the only way to unlock the games best horse, Link's companion in Zelda forever, Epona. Not making Epona an extremely hard to find wild horse is a kick in the teeth to begin with but then locking her behind a $16 DLC figure that used to be common as dirt to find but is now so hard to find people are selling them for $50 or more online is worse. That's my favourite example but the other examples are the Link from Ocarina of Time, Toon Link from Wind Waker, and the original 8 Bit Link from the first game have possibilities to drop the armor sets that their corresponding Link used in the game. Each and every single amiibo also drops meat, fish, herbs, or mushrooms along with a chest so if you are really desperate for ingredients then you always have a means to get them.
These are things that all Zelda fans want to add to their Breath of the Wild game and I'm sure if either A) you could still find them or B) Nintendo had plans to re-release these amiibos that no one would have an issue buying them but that's the problem there isn't any plans to then add to that examples like Fierce Deity Link from Majora's Mask was made but plans were scrapped for it to be released. Yet his armor and weapon remain in game items in Breath of the Wild. Of course I'd pay $3 to get something that awesome that Nintendo has no intentions of making.
Don't get me wrong, I personally have not gotten any of these cards but that is because I've been incredibly lucky and have the amiibos for the things I want in Zelda. Stuff like Fierce Deity Link would be awesome but I'm okay at holding off. Yet, I can see why some people may want to get them and that's fine.
I entirely fault Nintendo on this one and no one else, it may not be fully legit, but if they are going to lock crazy interesting pieces of DLC behind figurines that have been discontinued then to anyone getting the NFC cards off eBay, I'm not going to fault you on that.
Just my two cents on this new issue that was recently brought to my attention.
