If they were so good, why would EA be willing to stop supporting it ?? Why was the last game to come out in 2013 for the 2014 season ??
The reason was simple, several former collegiate athletes were suing the NCAA over their likeness' being used in games like NCAA Football or the briefly made NCAA Basketball series. During college, being considered "student athletes" no student is allowed to receive money in compensation for anything they do, their likeness included. However, what the NCAA was doing was using these players likeness, their stats, their play-styles, without their permission for their own financial gain. Even after college, none of these men were receiving compensation because it is their "student athlete likeness" being used. Athletes such as cover star of NCAA Football 14, Denard Robinson, or cover star of NCAA Football 11, Tim Tebow, receive no money from the NCAA or EA to be a part of these games whereas they do receive a small amount for their use in Madden.
The NCAA lost the lawsuit and therefore had to stop the NCAA Football franchise as a result (the basketball series was long dead), but they were able to and had until just recently still been supporting online functionality for NCAA 14. It's online functions have led to several interesting franchises created using Team Builder and turned into features on several YouTube channels; such as the UGF Pandas series by NotTheExpert Drew Morris. These are great series that shows how in-depth you could get into this game, with how you build your coach, how you scout your players, how you get a solid team. Without Team Builder working it would've been hard to see these franchises, so luckily they were started before the online was shut down.
Needless to say that because of this lawsuit shutting down NCAA Football, all that was remaining of the franchise was the online, with that done, we can officially RIP the franchise for good now. It is a sad day folks.
Even though the game looked like this picture below, so not fantastic, it still played amazing and was a fun experience. If you can get ahold of a copy, you don't need to play online to enjoy it, just sit back and have fun. It is very sad to see the end of this beloved franchise for good now, but hopefully, the NFLPA and the NCAA and other former players can work something out so we see more college football on the new systems.
