Sounds great. There's a fantastic game that was ported over to the Switch and it took awhile to go down but it did, so I decided to pick it up. Having played it for a little bit now I can say with 100% certainty; this is a game that can only be played on an undocked Switch because it's evident that little to no work was done to create solid controls for a non-touch screen that it's a bare bones DS port.
Why is that a problem ??
Because even though it is a Switch, I rarely take it out of the dock, I prefer it as a part of my TV which means touch screen controls are out of mind for me. How does it control on the TV then, well here's where I bring up the lazy part. It essentially handles the joy con like a Wii remote. The problems that exist for me are then these: you only use one of the two Joy Con controllers which is extremely awkward feeling, you always have to keep your hand centered at the screen because if you even slightly relax it once you have to re-orient the Joy Con and the amount of times I had to do it was mind boggling.
There in lies the biggest problem for me was the docked controls, I mean the story of a kid being sucked into a video game like world now is so cliche to me that it's uninteresting so I'm sure it was years ago when the game first came out was also not great, but the controls. It is nearly impossible to play the game on the TV that I just got frustrated said "fuck this" and turned the Switch off. I have never done that with any game, ever, never have some of the worst games I've played made me just turn the console off and go "that was a waste of time" but that's what it was a waste of time.
Is The World Ends With You good ?? I don't know if I'll ever be able to say because it's going to take a lot for me to go back to that mind bogglingly frustrating mess of a game. I LOVE the artwork, the style and look of the game were immediate hooks, like it's a beautiful game, but the rest falls apart. Maybe one day.......maybe one day I'll find out and see if it's as good as people say it is.
