But why ??
Well let's go over Nintendo's selling points on this: 1) It's only handheld, 2) Longer battery life, 3) It actually has a D-Pad, 4) You can still play all your Switch games on this, 5) It's cheaper than the Switch, 6) Not a super big point but the colourful ones (including the Sword/Shield Pokemon edition) were supposed to be a selling point.
Let's use all Nintendo's points and basically use them as counters them in my opinion, it's easier that way.
1) It's only a handheld - Okay, well there's one reason I don't like it, although the Switch is nice if you want to take it on the go or sit down and play it somewhere else in your home, you can't play it on the television and that's a massive deal breaker. There's no HDMI out, there's no ability to stick it on a separately purchasable dock, there's no way to use it on a TV at all. It is essentially NOT a Switch, the idea behind the console was to be able to SWITCH between the handheld and the television, without the ability to SWITCH.....it's not a Switch, it's a glorified 2DS that plays Switch games. Look Nintendo, if you wanted to continue your handheld game, guys continue making 3DS stuff or create a new console, don't defeat the purpose of the other console you made.
2) Longer battery life - Okay, well Nintendo's got me on this, it has a longer battery life by at least they say 2 hours or so. And I would hope it does have a longer battery life Nintendo, if you're going to make it just a handheld and not a Switch then it needs to be able to last longer. Of course.
3) It actually has a D-Pad - Alrighty, Nintendo fair again, it's good that it's not those weird buttons this time and it's an actual D-Pad but you can get that decent add-on to turn your buttons into a D-Pad for the Switch so I'm not giving them full credit on this.
4) You can still play all your Switch games on this - False. Sort of. While you can play them all, there are a select handful, of surprisingly popular first party Nintendo titles: Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Party, Arms, etc. that all need to use Joy-Cons detached to work well. Thus you need to pony up another $100 for a set of Joy Cons the ones part of the Lite are just attached to the console. It seems like a way to get an easy buck out of people though.
5) It is cheaper than the Switch - Yes, it's going to be like $259.99 CAD so for $120 more you can actually have it with the same ability the Lite is going to provide which is the ability to carry around because the regular model has that, oh and with a bigger screen, and the ability to connect it to the TV. So sure, it's cheaper, but for $120 you sure are gaining a hell of a lot more. I just don't see the point, I know some people are going to say it's "for kids", listen help the kids in advance and don't put them in the position where they can't play it carry around and on their TV's. It's nifty at first, but they'll tire of the carry aspect.....then what.
6) The colours - I'll take my Neon Pink & Neon Green Splatoon Joy-Cons and my regular Pro Controller over a turquoise, yellow, generic gray, or ugly Pokemon console ANY DAY of the week.
So there's Nintendo's selling points and my thoughts about them.
In the end, I see the Switch Lite as one thing, a cash grab. That's it. It's defeating the purpose of the Switch entirely, basically eliminating the SWITCH aspect of it, which is the consoles coolest function. It'll be great for some but terrible for others, I think if you want to get real enjoyment out of Nintendo Switch games and the Nintendo Switch console, you need a Nintendo Switch console and not this thing. This is going to legit give you half of what you can have but if saving that tiny amount of dollary-dos is what makes you want it all the power to you.
My opinion, terrible console, dumb idea, get a real Switch. You are all entitled to your opinions though friends.
