The NFL in their 100th year is doing an All 100 Team and they are slowly revealing who they chose to represent each position. The other day the NFL released their Offensive Linemen and Tight End decisions. With 5 people chosen to represent each position, no doubt in my mind that 3 of the Tight Ends were: Tony Gonzalez, Kellen Winslow, and of course Shannon Sharpe.
The list came out:
Tony Gonzalez, Kellen Winslow, Mike Ditka, John Mackey, and Rob Gronkowski.

Two of them I was right but I was furious Shannon Sharpe wasn't on that list. In fact, I was also pissed Ozzie Newsome wasn't on the list but moreso Shannon Sharpe because I consider him the 2nd best tight end of all-time behind Tony Gonzalez. Stats alone say to me that Sharpe should be on the list, as should Newsome, over some of the others on this list.
Lets give a run down of these mens stats; starting with Sharpe, then Newsome, and moving onto the "All 100 team"
Shannon Sharpe

Alright so that's all of these guys stats, the actual team, but also Shannon Sharpe and Ozzie Newsome. Let's see where they stack up
THE STATS BREAKDOWN
ALL TIME RECEPTIONS
1) Tony Gonzalez
2) Shannon Sharpe
3) Ozzie Newsome
4) Kellen Winslow
5) Rob Gronkowski
6) Mike Ditka
7) John Mackey

ALL TIME YARDS/AVG
1) John Mackey
2) Rob Gronkowski
3) Mike Ditka
4) Kellen Winslow
5) Shannon Sharpe
6) Ozzie Newsome
7) Tony Gonzalez
So, breaking that down, Shannon Sharpe is 2nd in All Time Receptions and Receiving Yards, 3rd in All Time Touchdowns, 5th in Yards Averaged, has made 8 Pro Bowls, been named All Pro 4x on the 1st Team and once on the 2nd Team, won 3 Super Bowls (2 with Denver and 1 with Baltimore), is an NFL Hall of Famer, and ISN'T on this All 100 Year Team ?? A guy who basically sits behind Tony Gonzalez on every list isn't on the team ??
That is absolutely, absurd.
Tony Gonzalez is the best tight end ever, Kellen Winslow and Ozzie Newsome changed the way Tight End was played, Shannon Sharpe perfected the way a passing Tight End was used, and Gronk is the greatest Tight End of modern times. IF the team was Gonzalez, Winslow, Sharpe, Newsome, Gronk; that is perfect, that's my team. I understand that Mike Ditka and John Mackey were great Tight Ends but in comparison to Sharpe and Newsome they are pedestrian at best.
It is an absolute crime, a disgusting abomination that the NFL left Shannon Sharpe out of this Top 100 team (Newsome too) but Big Play Shay..................that's shameful, you should be ashamed of yourselves NFL.
