I love professional football, the NFL is great to watch every Sunday and Monday, and over recent years there has also been Thursday Night Football games for us as well. Three days of the game I love sounds perfect right ??
Yes it does SOUND perfect but I don't think it is actually because I hate Thursday Night Football.
But why do I hate it ??
This year alone Thursday Night Football has caused so many injuries that like several people have said, "if you took all the players that were hurt that's a Super Bowl calibre team." And it truly is with players like Richard Sherman, Kenny Vaccaro, and more all having been hurt during Thursday night games. With injuries varying from ruptured Achilles to concussions.
Injuries happen all the time in pro football because it is an incredibly physical sport that takes a toll on the body, so yes, injuries do occur regardless but this year more than any other I've noticed a lot of them happen on Thursdays. If you think about it with football being as physically demanding as it is if a team, say my favourite team the Minnesota Vikings, has a game on Sunday then those guys are going to be severely beaten up and bruised up like you'd expect but rather than having an entire week off to rest with merely some practice in between they have another game 4 days later on Thursday, those same guys are still going to be reeling. Sure they have almost a longer period of time after that to rest but still that's 2 physically demanding games in one week. A lot of guys are getting hurt because of it.
Also, playing games on Thursday if that same team played Sunday or Monday, that team just goes out and plays like garbage on Thursday. I can't think of one great Thursday Night Football game, most of them have been mediocre at best.
Can it be solved with anything other than just getting rid of it ?? One person suggested that teams that are going to have Thursday night games should be given their Bye Week on the Sunday beforehand. If that is the only solution to avoiding so many injuries I'm okay with that but still I've never seen a good Thursday night game so just getting rid of them would be much better. For the players and fans.
So between the shitty games being played and the fact that guys consistently suffer more injuries on a Thursday than any other day of the week, is why I think they just need to get rid of Thursday Night Football. But we know the NFL doesn't care about anything but money and with their $900 million contract for TNF ending this year you can be sure that is going to get renewed because it's dollar bills for the NFL and for the owners. Do the players make money from those games, sure, but they pay a bigger price on their bodies more than any money is worth.
In the videos below New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees and Seattle Seahawks Defensive Lineman, Michael Bennett let you know exactly how they feel about Thursday night games. If you don't watch them, I'll fill you in......they really really don't like them.
