I said I didn't really want to talk about this when I had a discussion with my friend about this situation but as its gone on I've had time to think more on the matter and what I can say is this.
Jinder Mahal is great for their business scheme & plan but horrible for fans.
We live in an internet age where plans and ideas that are set for WWE are circulated widespread. It's why a guy like Roman Reigns who people wanted to win the Royal Rumble didn't win and then next year when WWE decided Roman was going to be the guy, the people wanted Daniel Bryan. Knowledge that Roman was the guy WWE wanted already made it worse and its made it harder for Reigns to recover. Now enter the new plan everyone else knows about from our internet age of wrestling. WWE knows there is a huge market in India for pro wrestling, what better way to tap that market and milk it dry than to put a superstar of East Indian descent as the WWE Champion.
What have we as fans gotten out of this, nothing. That's my problem it's a pure business decision on WWE's part with nothing else in mind. Is putting a Canadian with an East Indian heritage as WWE Champ going to do anything for the market in the country because they enjoyed wrestling already with non-Indian champions. This almost seems like pure pandering in every sense and nothing else unless they had a good feud planned for him or something afterwards. If things were awesome over there already won't it just seem a little off to them that suddenly when they try to pitch a more friendly
Nope.
We have now gotten ourselves into the classic WWE AMERICA VS THE EVIL FOREIGNER role, somehow Randy Orton who isn't a face character has to act like one and not only that since Jinder is saddled with a "you people don't understand India" and "you hate us all because we're different" gimmick, Randy also has to play up a sudden I'm a red white & blue boy to the core. The America vs the foreigner role is as old as time and ruins great angles sometimes. But that's the thing this isn't a great angle it is a thrown together piece of garbage to appeal to India and no where else.
Until this out of the blue WWE title win what did Jinder Mahal do that was memorable ?? Take awhile to think about it, let it stew, and I can tell you the answer is nothing. Oh I guess giving Finn Balor a concussion is memorable but really stupid, almost as stupid as 3MB, the gimmick that he shared with Drew McIntyre & Heath Slater. Of those three he was the worst. That's the biggest problem with Jinder he has done nothing, absolutely nothing, to deserve this and suddenly he's the champion. He is a jobber who is out of the blue the main event guy. I'm all for chances don't get me wrong but I think chances should be earned and not the way this was done. You know who's earned a WWE Title run on SmackDown Live: Luke Harper, top talent guy, great heel, great worker, and is not bound to Bray Wyatt now. Other great guys to give title opportunities too are pretty much everyone in the Money In The Bank match coming soon. I'd take any one of those guys to beat Jinder and I hope they do.
WWE isn't giving me the change I wanted, they are pandering to a crowd rather than finding a hard working guy: a Luke Harper or Sami Zayn and making them the top guy. Jinder is saddled with a gimmick as old as time and now I want him gone because I figure maybe something fresh and not contrived will emerge. Which is a shame when I thought they'd push guys like Nakamura to the moon ASAP
If you want to give Jinder a shot, let him win some matches, showcase his ability and earn it because right now he's a guy that we fans can't, or at least shouldn't, give any credibility to right now. He's a paper thing champion and hopefully only a placeholder champion until a real one takes his place.
That way Jinder Mahal can go back to having the kinds of matches he should be having with his quality of wrestling. Ones like the picture below.

And listen to WhatCulture Wrestling on this because I think Adam Blampied is as upset as I am. WWE's highest belt, the biggest title in the company, is a joke right now.
