I never thought that this could even be a possibility but here we are. We are, as of July 2018, looking at WWE potentially going forward with a Bayley and Sasha romance story line. I say that I never thought this could be a possibility not because doing any sort of gay relationship wouldn't work but because WWE has done these kinds of things before and all it has ever done is made the gay community look foolish. Does anyone remember Billy Gunn & Chuck Palumbo, managed by their hairstylist Rico ?? It was horrendous to watch growing up because it was a farce and while I feel that WWE's treatment of the topic would be a lot better with their writing these days I still think they'd handle it terribly. Bayley and Sasha have always had tremendous chemistry having put on some of the best matches in NXT history and when hitting the main roster immediately making an impact both having been RAW Women's Champion at least once. They are dynamic and charismatic together, portrayed as best friends on screen works well when you're best friends off screen as well, but with both Banks and Bayley having stagnated as far as stories go we've all thought one thing.
When is WWE going to pull the trigger on another Sasha Banks vs Bayley feud ??
It's created some of the best matches in recent company history already, so we know they have what's needed to make it work, all that is needed is just that spark. Which happened when a rift happened in their on screen friendship. Now with Bayley being the kid friendly, big sister type character, her turning heel seems like the impossible task so having Sasha do it seemed like the logical conclusion. Yet, I thought the unthinkable happened one night after they were forced to tag with each other and after the match Bayley started beating up Sasha then threw her into the staircase hard several times before leaving her. However, not before saying a few choice words that WWE had to censor. "You ain't shit Sasha".
"You ain't shit Sasha".......I was like, they're turning Bayley heel. WHAT IS GOING ON ??!!! She's their female John Cena as far as merchandise goes, why have her do that. Then they didn't or at least for now they haven't. Kurt Angle sent Sasha and Bayley to counseling, which we haven't seen since Daniel Bryan & Kane formed Team Hell No. We watched two weeks of ridiculous counseling leading into a tag match on RAW this week that ended with this backstage in the video.

"I love you, I always have and I always will"
Which leaves Bayley speechless as Sasha leaves. Now, yes, this could just mean as a normal best friends love and care about each other sort of way but the way WWE seems to be leaning it could have a lot to do with this being a romance. The tension they have and the fact Sasha herself said that she has a hard time expressing her feelings, the tension could just be from Sasha finding it impossible to tell Bayley how she feels. If all we get is just this tussle between the two backstage leading to a romance between the two and we don't get any solid matches that will be a tragedy because the two of them can put on an easy 5 star classic, meeting Dave Meltzer's standards. If WWE plans to go this route what I want is this:
Sasha said that but still has a hard time expressing her true feelings, so she continues to take out her frustration on Bayley and other women in the division, Bayley being conflicted eventually has enough of tiny matches and spats and wants Sasha to confront her honestly, to do it in an Ironman match at the next PPV. If she loses to Bayley, she fesses up her true honest feelings, if Sasha wins, she doesn't have to say anything. The two put on an instant classic that ends in a victory for Sasha, after the match Sasha says, "I'll only tell you if you can make me submit, if you can make me tap out, I'll tell you." On RAW, the main event is a submission match between the two which lasts for an hour and after several close calls and one huge rope break on a Banks Statement that would've one the match Bayley manages to make Sasha tap out using the same part armbar/surfboard stretch. It leads to an in ring confession, Sasha bleeds her feelings, "we're always going to be best friends, I am your best friend, but if you want to be mine as much as I want to be yours, that'd make me happy. If we have to say our feelings, that's how I feel." Then the hugger that she is, Bayley gives her a hug, followed by a "sure that'd make me happy too" then a small kiss and then they raise each others hands in a mutual victory. Bayley won the match but they both won the war.
From this, I'd like to see a WWE Women's Tag Championship formed and defended on both RAW and SmackDown, not 2 separate belts one per brand. It'd allow exposure for each brands women to work together, it allows stables like the Riott Squad to attain group gold but I'd give the inaugural championship reign to Sasha & Bayley. Not necessarily because of the romance but with them as tight as they were already this just gives it more necessity for them to be together more and Tag Titles means they can defend them like only The Legit Boss and The Hugger truly can.
That's how I'd like to see but like I said WWE doesn't have the best track record for LGBT stories or characters, like Billy & Chuck & Rico, but with new characters like Velveteen Dream I think there's promise so I won't totally write off a Bayley and Sasha romance, but who knows. Who knows what the future holds; as long as it is well done it's fine by me.
