Where's Becky Lynch in all of this though ??
Having been dubbed one of the Four Horsewomen with Charlotte, Bayley, and Sasha Banks you'd expect her to constantly be involved and be near the top of the women's card and always in the title hunt. But for the longest time they were having Becky be a simple midcard talent as far as the women go, going out there and winning matches but mostly putting people over. It started to really look bad, really bad, for Becky's career. It is similar to Bayley, everyone loves Becky Lynch, she is a lovable mega baby-face character that you can't hate. It's almost impossible to hate her because she's always created such a great underdog lovable persona.
Then after SummerSlam she turns heel on Charlotte, she wants to exert dominance and prove she's the woman that should be in charge of the division and not always Charlotte, that everyone who looked down on Becky Lynch were going to regret it. I was excited because to me a turn for Becky, the willingness to cut harsh promos on someone, the willingness to attack them from behind, it wasn't like her and it was fresh and new. It brought her back into our minds and I saw this as the best way to save Becky's WWE career.
Though WWE has run into a bit of a problem. I said no one wants to hate Becky Lynch and they don't because despite her being a traditional heel in promo and sneaky tactics, the fans still cheer her. And despite her not wanting to come off as the bad guy, Charlotte is the bad guy. People like her but she is very much the women's divisions Roman Reigns. What they have found themselves having to do is make Becky something of an anti-hero, a tweener (someone who switches between face & heel tactics depending), and that still to me is better than what she was doing.
It leaves things wide open for Becky to be the spunky, roughhousing, fighting Irish "lass-kicker" that she was always described to be. It brings out a bit of stereotype fighting Irish sort of thing but I believe that Becky as a rowdy character is perfect. She reminds me a lot of Roddy Piper, beloved by fans switched between face and heel (though Roddy was mostly heel whereas Becky mostly face), but yes to me that's the kind of character she can be. I think that riding her popularity is a smart thing for WWE to do, everyone wants Becky back in the spotlight; hopefully soon we'll see this again if they ride this out properly.
