Well, Wrestlemania 34 has now come and gone, along with NXT TakeOver and the RAW & SmackDown that follow Wrestlemania, but what are my thoughts on what occurred during the biggest stage in sports entertainment ?? Did I like everything, anything, were any of my predictions right ??
I can tell you now that like all Wrestlemania's recently, NXT TakeOver was leaps and bounds better that's a good place to start, to be honest I thought Wrestlemania 34 while having a few highlight moments was pretty underwhelming and one of the shows I'd say just skip and watch the highlights.
MY PREDICTIONS, WERE THEY CORRECT ??
I'm surprised that a majority of my predictions were wrong and that things that made sense didn't happen while a few things that didn't make sense did happen. I'll go over a few of my predictions along with the actual result and explain why what I thought made sense while the actual result doesn't.
Andre the Giant Battle Royale
My Prediction: Dolph Ziggler, Actual Winner: Matt Hardy
Alright while the Andre the Giant Battle Royale is usually one of those throwaway matches and just a "token 'Mania thing" it still does mean something to win. I always hold a soft spot for 2 guys: Dolph Ziggler and Zack Ryder and since I know WWE isn't smart enough to let Zack Ryder win I thought, maybe with his weird build and dropping the US Title and coming out #30 at the Royal Rumble that maybe at least they were going to have Dolph win this. Nope, instead we had "Woken" Bray Wyatt come down to the ring suddenly to help "Woken" Matt Hardy steal a victory in the match from Mojo Rawley.

Inaugural Women's Battle Royale
My Prediction: Bayley vs Sasha with Bayley win, Actual Winner: Bayley vs Sasha with Naomi win
Another 1st ever for the women, which I wish they'd stop announcing we understand that it is because we've never seen it before. Which at first saw a controversy by naming the match after the Fabulous Moolah, who when I was a kid I thought was just one of the two weird grandma wrestlers from the Attitude Era but since hearing from Jim Cornette the kind of stuff she actually did in the business I realize why said controversy existed. Now onto the match. First, I'm disappointed that so many talented women had to just be relegated to the pre-show but there's only 2 women's titles; seeing talent like Becky Lynch, Bayley, Sasha, Ruby Riott, etc wasted was a shame. Now, we did see the NXT girls make a debut but it was underwhelming. What I knew was going to happen did happen and that is they were going to use this Battle Royale to continue the storyline between Bayley and Sasha story which many wouldn't have expected before the match was announced. That is how it played out, Banks and Bayley helped one another throughout the match eliminating other women and mixing it up when they had to until finally putting together great spots against each other leading to a Bayley victory. Which is what we thought, however, she lost to Naomi suddenly and out of the blue because she wasn't eliminated. It took a big part away from the match, sure Bayley and Sasha got their mixup and it seemed like Bayley got a heelish move eliminating

Crusierweight Championship
My Prediction: Cedric Alexander, Actual Winner: Cedric Alexander
Alright well since WWE has never truly gotten the crusierweight division done properly I've never actually cared and when Rich Swann became the champ and had his issues he had to vacate the title. Which left it wide open for this match, now I may not know a lot about the division but I know that Cedric Alexander has always been one of the bigger names in the division and with him being the one in the match I kind of expected it to go his way. I actually managed to predict it right.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship
My Prediction: The Bludgeon Brothers, Actual Winner: The Bludgeon Brothers
Another match that I considered for the most part stale because it was ANOTHER match that was the New Day vs The Usos, who always do have great matches don't get me wrong but it has run its course already, now had something else to it at least and that was The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper & Erik Rowan). For weeks, since their return to active competition, WWE has pushed Harper & Rowan as an unstoppable force which seriously helped their tough guy feel going into the match. Now we all know Luke Harper & Erik Rowan are a phenomenal tag team and they didn't need a build but their new post-Wyatt characters did. I expected them to come out on top to put freshness into a stale tag division but also because they built up the two so much and have had a lot of faith in Harper & Rowan in the past (both of whom usually are plagued by injury which is the only thing preventing their push). I got another one right.

RAW Tag Team Championships
My Prediction: Braun Strowman ALONE, Actual Winner: Braun Strowman & Nicholas
WWE continues another moment of being the good guy with an amazing decision by their creative team. What I expected when Braun was said to have a mystery partner going into Wrestlemania to take on The Bar for the tag titles was that he was going to come in with his mystery partner as himself and clear house taking out both Cesaro & Shaemus on-route to a victory. That was not the case, while the victory was, Strowman did walk out RAW Tag Champion he did not do it alone; he did so with one lucky young 10 year old WWE fan named Nicholas. It was a feel good moment as the crowd chanted for Nicholas to hit the ring and he did, "helping" Strowman to beat The Bar. The two had to relinquish said titles on RAW already but it made for a Wrestlemania moment. I'll say I was half right on this one.

United States Championship
My Prediction: Rusev, Actual Winner: Jinder Mahal
Well going in Bobby Roode was my legit favourite to win until I saw that last minute they added Rusev because of his sudden rise in popularity, with "Rusev Day" kicking off in full effect I figured WWE would put the belt on him instead. Of course I was wrong, they put it on Jinder. Now if they did this at Backlash with the intent of eventually making him champ I would've been more accepting, a midcard title holder, heading up the card makes sense. Now all I see when I look at Jinder is a failed business experiment of the WWE, but hopefully his work as United States Champ changes my mind and that he has good feuds with the likes of Roode, Rusev, Ziggler, etc. on the upper mid-card. I was expecting different, slightly disappointed, but it could be worse for some inexplicable reason they could've let Randy Orton hang onto it for no reason.

Intercontinental Championship
My Prediction: Finn Balor, Actual Winner: Seth Rollins
Going into this match I knew it was going to be good just based on the caliber of the performers. The Miz is an amazing heel who can go when he wants in the ring, I knew he'd be losing the belt though so he can take time off to be with his newborn child and wife. That being said with two workhorses like Seth Rollins and Finn Balor as the competition it's hard to say who's going to come out on top. I figured that since he was the first ever, though brief, Universal Champion and is gaining even more popularity than he already had that they'd put the title on Finn Balor, however, I was incorrect and they put it around Rollins. Adding that belt puts Seth in the "Grand Slam Champion" territory with both other members of the Shield and several greats of the time, so that doesn't disappoint me, and neither does Rollins having the belt because he's an amazing worker who I can expect will have strong matches with Balor and potentially Bobby Lashley down the road. Long story short, I'm a Balor fan so I'd prefer my result but Rollins is still a great champ. The Miz making this belt matter again is huge and putting it on another big name is important, they need to keep the title relevant, which is something the US Title unfortunately lacks still.

Daniel Bryan & Shane O'Mac vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
My Prediction: Daniel Bryan & Shane O'Mac, Actual Winner: Daniel Bryan & Shane O'Mac
Another feel good moment, after 2 years away from the ring, WWE finally cleared Daniel Bryan for a return to active competition and this would be his first match back. The triumphant return of Daniel Bryan, there was honestly no way between his return and the fact that Shane O'Mac was involved that these two were losing. It's not as if Kevin Owens or Sami Zayn need the win, their reputations are both solid and going forward they will rack up a win or two against the two or maybe this is when things snap and they start feuding with each other. It was an easy result to spot just because of Bryan's return.

John Cena vs Undertaker
My Prediction: Undertaker, Actual Winner: Undertaker
This has to billed as one of the ODDEST buildups to a match in WWE history, John Cena went out for weeks and challenged Undertaker to a Wrestlemania match and fought Kane and more before staying in the front rows of 'Mania "as a fan" until someone told him the Undertaker came to accept his challenge. At this point, no one wants to see Undertaker wrestle, his match last year against Roman Reigns was abysmal and this wasn't much better; sure he picked up the win but still it was an awful match. I'm glad that he stepped foot in the ring again but the way he "retired" last year with the hat in the ring was amazing and now it's like what was that for. I knew if the match happened that Undertaker would win because even with the streak dead having him lose to more than Reigns and Lesnar at this point in his career is pointless. No point to the match but it happened.

RAW Women's Championship
My Prediction: Nia Jax, Actual Winner: Nia Jax
Alexa Bliss has been the RAW Women's Champ a long time now, just as she was for the SmackDown Women's Championship not that it is a bad thing because Bliss carries herself like a true heel champ and one that is capable of long title runs. What I knew going into this is that they have been building this match with Bliss making fun of her off-screen best friend and it constantly getting on Jax's nerves that she was somehow being bullied by a girl who stood a good foot smaller than her and much lighter. When Asuka decided through her Royal Rumble victory to NOT challenge Bliss on RAW and rather challenge Charlotte for the SmackDown Women's Championship they needed a replacement and Jax was a great fit. It made sense that Bliss despite any resistance would lose but they still made her look okay enough that she is not jobbed out and unable to recover. Now is when bringing in someone tough to take on Jax makes sense, now is when you either test out how far you want to go with Sonya DeVille OR you bring up Nikki Cross. They are two logical opponents for Nia Jax going forward.

SmackDown Women's Champion
My Predition: Asuka, Actual Winner: Charlotte Flair
After 914 days of undefeated wrestling, "The Empress of Tomorrow" Asuka has finally fallen to Charlotte. I get that they had to end Asuka's streak but did it have to be at Wrestlemania ?? Did it have to be before she got the belt ?? If she won, she would've brought a huge and needed element to SmackDown's women's division. Once Asuka holds the belt until SummerSlam or Survivor Series have her lose to Charlotte then but this to me missed out on getting Asuka to SmackDown and it missed a chance to further the "Empress of Tomorrow" by having her take down the current wrestling queen. It would've given them both a huge thing and everyone something to look forward too. It does make Charlotte look like the undeniable women's champion though, the best female wrestler one the planet and I get that's what they were going for, I don't agree with the idea because I think there are far better Asuka being one of them. Though when she did lose, Charlotte would have been one of only maybe 4 or 5 women I'd accept beating Asuka, so it is okay but I think they pulled the plug on something that could have been awesome.

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle vs Triple H & Stephanie McMahon
My Prediction: Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle,Actual Winner: Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle
The biggest debut in recent memory, the official debut of Ronda Rousey as a WWE competitor and not a one off character, the start of her post-UFC career. While I know she is a huge Roddy Piper fan and that I get he was a huge influence on her career and even he knew that, I'm still kinda all iffy when I see the association in her entrance and it isn't actually the "Hot Rod" himself coming to the ring, but that's just me being picky. Anyway, her teaming with another man who we all want to see wrestling again Kurt Angle, someone who is similar to Rousey in ways what with the actual professional career in another legitimate sport before joining WWE, it was exciting. It was against Triple H and Stephanie so it was a tad bland but Rousey did a great job, everyone did a great job, it honestly was one of the better matches of the night. Her picking up Triple H, which usually isn't allowed in mixed tag it is guy vs guy and girl vs girl, was intense and she legit looked like she hammered Stephanie all match before that armbar. It was great.

WWE Championship
My Prediction: Shinuske Nakamura, Actual Winner: AJ Styles
This match was to many a dream match and was to myself as well, a rematch of a classic New Japan Pro Wrestling match. AJ Styles vs Shinuske Nakamura. I was pumped, it was a great match and unfortunately Shinuske didn't pull through and win like I thought he would; I can't complain because I'm a huge AJ Styles fan and have been since the TNA days. Just would've been nice to see Shinuske win one. Also, Nakamura turned heel, for some reason. Which not only baffled me but everyone else as well including some of the NJPW wrestlers who were in attendance as the ROH/NJPW Supercard was also in New Orleans that weekend so there were big name NJPW wrestlers in attendance and they didn't get why it happened and no one else did either. For a storyline I guess ?? Anyways it was a solid match, I hoped for a different outcome but I'm not overly disappointed with Styles coming out on top, I couldn't really lose with that result.

WWE Universal Championship
My Prediction: Roman Reigns, Actual Winner: Brock Lesnar
It's the 3rd or 4th main even that Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar have had at Wrestlemania, I can't even keep track anymore because it's boring. It's always the same thing: F5, F5, Suplex City, Spear, Spear, Superman Punch, Superman Punch, pin, ding ding ding. Brock and Roman can't put on a quality match together and to think we've had it this many times when quality guys like CM Punk where shunned from the main event is pathetic. I'm NOT anti-Roman, if WWE thinks they can get Roman to be a good replacement for Cena all the power to them, they've screwed it up a bunch but I think it's still possible even though I'd put other guys in the spot first. Here though, here is a giant missed opportunity because I honestly think people would've been happy to see Reigns win the title, would it have been predictable yes. Yet, after the way Brock Lesnar treats the WWE and the way he treats the championship, why does he deserve to be the champ ?? Honestly, I'm happy the match ended because it was boring, yes there was blood too and lots of it so props to Roman on a good blade job because that doesn't happen much anymore but the blood didn't really have any significance. Neither do their finishers apparently either, I just don't understand the matches between these two. Hopefully with Bobby Lashley's return we see him take the belt and be a proper champ and lead into some quality feuds with Roman and others.

MY FINAL RUNDOWN
It was a mediocre Wrestlemania at best, one with a lot of decisions that didn't make sense as far as match results go for storylines or title changes or lack thereof. I think the matches could've used a lot more get up and go to them, they were too samey and boring. Also the biggest complaint I did have and one that apparently a lot of fans and WWE wrestlers had was the length; including the pre-show Wrestlemania was 7 hours long. That is insane for any fan especially those in attendance who probably were exhausted by the time the main event rolled around. Long story short I was OKAY with my predictions but the ones I got wrong were the ones I hoped were right and that it could've been a better show. Here's hoping for another good year going forward.
