The above image is the reason why too many PPV's exist in WWE television today. After splitting WWE into RAW and SmackDown Live in the new brand split they decided having a PPV per brand every month PLUS shared ones like Summer Slam, Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble, and Wrestlemania. That is TWO of them a month starting with Backlash for SmackDown Live and Clash of Champions for RAW in September, then No Mercy for SmackDown and Hell In A Cell for RAW in October, Survivor Series as a combo in November as one of the big four PPV's, and TLC for SmackDown and Roadblock: End of the Line for RAW in December. In 3 months, WWE had 7 PPV's.....no matter how you slice it that is excessive to a massive degree. I believe there are two reasons that this exists the first is the WWE Network and the second is the brand split. I believe with the WWE Network they are trying to provide as much content for paying subscribers as possible and while that is fantastic I do believe it devalues PPV's to a degree. After splitting the brands though, deciding to have a PPV per brand every month is too much as again it devalues the idea of a PPV it essentially just becomes another episode of RAW or another episode of SmackDown Live and the only "important" ones are: Summer Slam, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, and Wrestlemania. You never want to have what should be a special event per month to become as bland as the episodes of the shows they are representing.
WWE has heard the concerns of fans and the burn out they seem to be facing and are considering toning down the amount of PPV's this year in 2017. Having just had the Royal Rumble, typically we'd have Fastlane, then Wrestlemania after that so if that's the case they may be toning them down but if there are 2 PPV's: Fastlane and something else before Wrestlemania, they haven't learned a thing. I don't want to see them burn out ideas because traditionally you should wrap up angles at PPV's but they can't seem to finish anything before the PPV rolls around now. I want PPV's to mean something still so hopefully we see WWE cut back on the amount of them this year......I'd prefer them to get rid of the brand split altogether but we can get to that later.
